About

The Lake Wister Association was granted a network of retired railroad corridors throughout Leflore County through the Rails to Trails Conservancy program, a national initiative that transforms abandoned rail lines into public recreational trails. These historic pathways, once used to move freight and passengers across the region, have been given new life as accessible outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy.

Shortly after receiving these paths, the Old Frisco Trail was developed and quickly became a beloved fixture in the area. For nearly 30 years, locals and visitors alike have enjoyed this trail for hiking, walking, and connecting with the natural beauty of eastern Oklahoma. Its longstanding popularity is a testament to the community's passion for outdoor recreation and the value of preserving these historic rights-of-way for public use.

Building on that legacy, the Lake Wister Association is excited to announce a new trail currently under construction — the PBR Trail Project. Made possible through a generous grant from the Oklahoma Forestry Services, this new addition promises to expand recreational opportunities in the area and introduce even more people to the stunning landscapes in Leflore County. We look forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses.
